Perfect Vision With Personal Care

Hyde Park Optometry: Refractive Surgery Co-Management

Primary Eye Care

If you do not have 20/20 vision, the purpose of primary eye care is to find out why. We first determine if your vision problems are caused by refractive issues (fixable by glasses or contact lenses). We also test binocularity (how well your eyes work together as a team).

If your vision problems seem more serious, we test for specific medical problems:

  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration
  • Ocular effects from diabetes, hypertension, and other medical conditions.

Dilated pupil examinations can be done during your initial visit or can be scheduled at a later date.

Contact Lens Fitting

We first determine if you are a suitable candidate for contact lenses and then take your eye measurements. Depending on your individual situation, we will prescribe a particular type of lens, including:

  • Daily use or monthly use
  • Soft or rigid glass permeable
  • Multifocal lenses to limit the need for reading glasses
  • Specialty lenses for corneal problems, such as keratoconus or pellucid marginal degeneration
  • Colored contact lenses

For most patients, we provide a trial pair of lenses at the time of fitting. For more unusual prescriptions, we will need to order a trial pair. Delivery times range from 2 days to 2 weeks. We also sell contact lenses at our office. Emergency pairs of contact lenses are available for most patients.

Kits for cleaning and storing lenses are complementary with the fitting process.

Refractive Surgery Co-Management

Refractive surgery co-management is the evaluation of patients before and after LASIK or PRK eye surgeries.

Screening Process: To determine if refractive surgery is the correct solution for you, we first evaluate your eyes’ dryness and prescription strength. We then check for adverse eye conditions (cataracts, corneal dystrophy, etc.) that could prevent a successful outcome.

Patient Education: We explain what refractive surgery can do and what it can’t do. Patients over 40 will still need reading glasses in the future, unless they choose monovision. Monovision is where one eye is corrected for distance and the other for reading

Pre-Op Exam: Measurements of your eyes are taken for the surgeon. Hyde Park Optometry is affiliated with renowned eye surgeon, Dr. Steven Stetson. Dr. Stetson has performed over 40,000 refractive surgeries.

Post-Op Exams: We request that patients visit our office 4-8 times after the surgery. This is to ensure the healing process is proceeding without complications.

Vision Therapy

Vision therapy is a treatment for many common visual problems, such as:

  • Crossed eyes
  • Double vision
  • Lazy eyes
  • Eye teaming and focusing problems
  • Eye tracking delays and visual processing problems
  • Eye fatigue or headaches from reading or staring at screens
  • Other issues where visual efficiency may be a factor

The core of vision therapy are exercises that coordinate eye muscles, improve focusing ability, and improve eye tracking. Vision therapy is suitable for patients of all ages.

Vision therapy is done by Dr. Amy Bartolone. To schedule an appointment, contact her at (845) 443-6800.
